BAUSCH & LOMB VINTAGE “LI-2″ PETROGRAPHIC POLARIZING MICROSCOPE STAND FOR PARTS. BAUSCH & LOMB VINTAGE MODEL LI-2 PETROGRAPHIC POLARIZING MICROSCOPE STAND 1967 – FOR PARTS OR REPAIR. This instrument is one of B&L’s Dynoptic Polarizing Microscope models that used Sextant grade Polaroid discs in the analyzer and substage polarizer in lieu of crystalline prisms. This listing is for the stand only – no eyepieces or objectives are included with the microscope stand. It is offered for parts or for repair. Also, this instrument bears the serial number, 8722VD found under the base of the limb (see images). This serial number dates the microscope to the year 1967. This instrument is being offered for parts or repair due mainly to the fact that the Polaroid discs in this instrument have evidently delaminated. As a result, it is not possible to use the instrument for petrographic-polarization investigations. In addition, there is a chip in the top of the condenser lens, which adversely affects the performance of the illumination system. The Barlow lens appears to be present in the body tube, but we were unable to test its function. On the positive side, this instrument is still fully functional mechanically with the coarse and fine focus mechanisms working smoothly. The cosmetic condition is very good as well. It is possible to restore this instrument to full functionality by replacing the Polaroid discs in the body tube and substage condenser/polarizer assembly. A replacement for the condenser lens will also be needed. And, I should mention that it is still possible to use this microscope as a standard biological microscope even with the defects noted.
