Laboratory polarizing microscope MIN-8. This is a more advanced device designed to study transparent preparations in transmitted light during orthoscopic and conoscopic rays. The microscope MIN-8 has a rigid tripod with a built-in illuminator, a rotating stage with vernes to count the angle of rotation. Mechanism for focusing the centering of the Bertrand lens. The polarizer, analyzer and stage have limbs for reading the angles of rotation. The use of a polarizing microscope broadens the possibilities of studying medicinal plants and allows increasing the amount of information obtained. Double refraction has crystals of calcium oxalate. Which greatly facilitates their detection in preparations, especially in powder. Optically anisotropic starch grains, in which polar light is visible in polarized light, since the starch molecules in the grain are located radially. The cell membrane is also optically anisotropic, which is due to a certain orientation of the molecular chains of cellulose. Especially the large value of birefringence is possessed by the cellular membranes of considerable thickness (mechanical elements that conduct the xylem elements). When examining preparations in a polarizing microscope with a crossed polarizer and analyzer, the anisotropic elements are clearly visible on the dark background of the field of view. Rotation of the eyepiece with a polarizing filter superimposed on it achieve “damping” of light in the field of view. In a darkened field, brightly lit details with birefringence. When combined with an OI-12 illuminator, a microscope can be used to study opaque objects in reflected light.
