When you forget to turn off control switch and sterilizer boils dry, current will be automatically disconnected by thermostat in approximately four minutes. Until turned off by hand, thermostat turns current on intermittently for approximately six minutes out of each hour during which time temperature in tray maintains approximately 180 degrees average.
