Rare vintage Glasbake penicillin culture clear thick glass bottle. The bottle is identified by the embossed lettering in the glass that reads GLASBAKE PENICILLIN CULTURE BOTTLE. The wide mouth allowed the culture to be easily inserted and removed from the fermentation bottle and the bottle was placed horizontally on its flat side (see Photo 5) to allow the penicillin to grow in the laboratory and this maximized the yield of the penicillin. The bottle measures approximately 10.25 inches in length, 4.75 inches in maximum width, and 2.25 inches in maximum thickness. The opening in the bottle (see Photos 7 and 8) measures approximately 3.5 inches in length by 0.75 inches in height. The weight of the bottle is 1.82 pounds. Please see all 10 photographs as they are part of the description. The bottle is in very good condition with some scratches. I did not observe any cracks or chips. The bottle does contain manufacturing flaws typical of these bottles consisting of bubbles in the glass and an irregular shaped seam in the glass. The manufacturing flaws do not detract from the value of the bottle and confirm that the Glasbake bottle is vintage in age.
