Vintage Large Pyrex Vacuum Chamber Degassing Desiccator Pot 4 Quart Capacity

Vintage Large Pyrex Vacuum Chamber / Degassing Pot – 4 Quart Capacity. One Gallon of liquid will fill the pot to about 2 inches of the top rim. All very heavy thick walled Pyrex Glass with a ground top lid and vacuum port and valve assembly. The top of the lid handle is a finely Ground Glass Valve with the attached Vacuum Port, It can be turned right or left to open or close the Vacuum Port Fitting. There is a chip on the back of the top rim and some other chips throughout but they are just cosmetic and do no affect the operation of a vacuum or lid sealing. The pot and lid weigh 12.5 pounds. Vintage (mid 70), new, never used, in original box, opened, type GLS-1 laser glass rod, made in Russian Federation. The neodymium oxide Nd. Doping is about 2 % by mass or 1.9 x 10. Ion concentration for this laser glass From: B. Handbook of Solid-State Lasers: Materials, Systems, and Applications, Woodhead Publ. 121, Table 5.2. In perfect optical condition, no scratches or chips, pictured each end. Originally intended to be used as amplifier in a large R&D laser for plasma studies, but never used. As oscillator, expect to obtain 500 – 800 J in free running, 150 – 350 J in Q-switch, 50 – 100 J in mode-locking (ps pulses), appropriately pumped (4 x 20 kJ flash lamps, circular cylinder pumping chamber). I looked for some type of name or markings but I don’t know enough about these things to find anything. Came from an older gentleman that refurbished used ophthalmology equipment and wanted to retire (this does not mean it works perfectly). Thick and thin lenses with metal frames.
