THIS HEAVY SOLID BRASS MICROSCOPE IS PATENT DATED AUG 24, 1897 ON THE PART THATYOU TURN TO MOVE THE SLIDE FORWARD OR BACKWARD.. THIS MICROSCOPE COMES WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. INSIDE THE DOOR, ARE ALL OF THE ORIGINAL ACCROUTMENTS THAT CAME WITH THE SCOPE ALONG WITH A CHART THAT LISTS ALL OF THE DIFFERENT EYE PIECES. IN THE RACK ON THE DOOR, THERE ARE THREE EYE PIECES. ONE IS NICKEL PLATED AND THE OTHER TWO ARE ALL BRASS. NO MARKINGS ON THEM EXCEPT THE SMALLER CENTER HAS A 4 ON TOP. BEHIND THESE ARE FOUR BRASS SCREW TOP CONTAINERS. ON THE CAP OF THE FAR LEFT CONTAINER, INSCRIBED IS BAUSH & LOMB OPITICAL CO. AND NEW YORK, N. IN THE CENTER, IT SAYS EMERSION OIL AND INSIDE IS A TINY GLASS STOPPERED BOTTLE CONTAINING THE OIL. THE OTHER THREE BRASS SCREW TOP CONTAINERS ARE EMPTY. THEY HAVE THE SAME B & L LABELING BUT IN THE CENTER IS 1/12 , 1/6, 2/3. THE PULL OUT DRAWER IN THE TOP OF THE BOX HAS A GLASS SLIDE IN IT. OBJECTIVES ARE ALL MARKED BAUSH AND LOMB ARE ARE THE SAME STRENGTHS THAT THE 3 BRASS CONTAINERS HAVE ON THEIR TOP. THERE IS A NUMBER BUTTON ON THE BACK OF THE SCOPE (AS SEEN IN THE PICTURES) THAT HAS THE NUMBER 27160. THE STAGE HAS A HINGED SLIDE HOLDER AND A GUIDE ON THE LEFT OF THE STAGE. THIS SCOPE HAS A MECHANISM TO MOVE THE SLIDE UP AND SIDE TO SIDE WITH MARKINGS IN MM’S FOR RECORDING AN EXACT PLACE OF AN OBJECT. BEHIND THE FOCUS WHEEL IS A ROUND WHEEL THAT TURNS AND IS MARKED IN MM’S FROM 0 TO 100. ON THE VERY TOP OF THIS WHEEL IS A SCREW THAT HAS PATENT FEB 16 1897. BELOW THE STAGE IS A CONDENSOR LENS AND AN IRIS DIAPHRAM. BELOW THAT IS A REVERSABLE MIRROR WITH ONE SIDE BEING MAGNIFIED. THE ONLY ISSUE I SEE IS A PIECE OF TRIM OFF THE BOX IS MISSING ABOVE WHERE THE DOOR SHUTS. VERY RARE BERGSMAN 4-281 M. 200 MICRO-HARDNESS TESTER 4 METALLURGICAL MICROSCOPES. All I can find on the web is the patent info on this tester. Love to hear from you! Here is what must be a nearly impossible to find (until now) micro-hardness tester which can be used in conjunction with metallurgical-inverted microscopes. This is marked “Bergsman Micro-Hardness Tester 4-281″ on the tester itself. This is believed to be a M. 200A, as it was being used with a Reichert MeF2 microscope. Unit comes as shown in the photos. If it once had an indicator point with it, as some of the paperwork indicates, it does not now. Does includes weights, UHB 577 Knoop diamond indenter, several original supporting books and documentation, along with a price list probably from the late 40′s to 50′s.
