This is a very rare vintage Portable Dental chair, S. White Patented April 30, 1895. It disassembles and fits in the box measuring 39″ long, 13″ wide, 7 1/2 deep and weighs 88 1/2 pounds. Back and seat made of velvet carpet, head-rest is corduroy. Was used by dentist traveling from small town to small town, also possibly in WWI or WWII. Paper is a reprint of original ad for the chair. Would make a great piece for the reception area of a dentist office or a man cave or den or?? There are lots of possibilities. If you have any questions please drop me a note and thanks for looking. Made by Gilbert Specialties from Michigan City, Indiana and owned by a local doctor here in Vermont. Very well made with many precision adjustments and interesting features. Includes the metal case which doubles as a table, metal stirrups with cloth straps which install into the table, wooden cover plate with very interesting instructions printed on it (more inside the case), speculum light that plugs into the side of the case and connects to a battery pack there, rubber mat made to lay out under the case and protect the stirrups during transport, and rubberized carrying case. It measures 27 x 15 x 4 inches in the case and weighs 23 pounds. A great piece for vintage medical equipment collectors and could be re-purposed for modern uses as well. In remarkably good shape considering it’s almost 100 years old. Rubber is still pliable, straps are excellent – one clamp has a little rust on it but doesn’t affect functionality – see close up pic. The speculum light cord is shot I think but may still work with new batteries installed – I haven’t tried – could be easily rewired. The battery holder, wiring and connections in the case seem excellent. Metal case is excellent – hinges and clip work. Carrying case is a little rougher but still works great. It was made by the Emergency Aids Company in Wheaton, Illinois. It is called a Collapsi-Cot and is the deluxe model Sp-56. The brochure reads The Modern Collapsi-Cot is today’s answer for an all purpose stretcher. The telescopic tubular frame adjusts to any size where required. In takes only 10 seconds to set up… It opens to a full 72 inches in length and 20 inches in width. Folded it measures 45 inches by 20 inches and 2 1/4 inches thick. The standard model weighs 23 pounds, this one is a little heavier as it the deluxe model and has 6” rubber wheels at the head and 5 ball bearing swivel wheels at the base end..
