Vintage 1930′s Very Rare Museum Quality Bovie Electrosurgical Unit Model 0-4. Manufactured in Chimico France. Lectern with drawer and casters. This item has output test and inspection stickers on it. Last time this item was inspected and used at St. Mary’s hospital at the biomedical service area was in 3/05/2001. This item was tested and still works. There is a bovie eletrosurgical unit at the Lille Hospital Museum. Bovie is the brand of the first real electro cartery was created around the 1927. This item comes with all original accessories that are pictured in my listing pictures. Everything you see in my listing pictures are what you will receive. This item is in very good condition for a 1930′s item. The first use of an electrosurgical generator in operating room occurred on October 1, 1926. The surgery was performed by Dr. For thousands of years human beings have used heat in the form of cautery to treat trauma and disease. By the late nineteenth century, as technology advanced, heat could be produced by electric current. In 1920 William T. Bovie, an eccentric inventor with a doctorate in plant physiology, developed an innovative electrosurgical unit that Harvey Cushing, the founder of modern neurosurgery, introduced to clinical practice. The Bovie unit passes high frequency alternating current into the body allowing the current to cut or coagulate. After 75 years this basic device remains a fundamental tool in the practice of surgery.
