Unit recently removed from an educational facility due to equipment changes/upgrades. Overall physical condition is nice/clean, showing minimal signs of previous use (Please see photos). Woolf ski-optometer refurbished with stand. Antique vintage phoroptor phoropter

This phoroptor is 100 years old. It was made in 1917 by the Woolf Instrument company of New York City at a time before AO or B&L were making phoroptors. In fact, the word phoroptor was not even coined yet. The only other company at that time that made phoroptors was DeZeng which made a simpler machine with no cylinder called a phoro-optometer. The Woolf ski-optometer was the first one in the world with cylinder. I sent it to an ophthalmic equipment repair service to have it refurbished and cleaned. It did not need repair, just cleaned and lubricated so the mechanism worked smoothly. It works perfectly now. The lenses are spotlessly clean. It comes with a book written by Daniel Woolf on how to refract using this instrument, published in 1921. Daniel was the son of Michael Woolf who invented this instrument. It was called a ski-optometer because it was made to make it easier to do skiascopy, an early term for retinoscopy. It has risley prisms which swivel into place, and a stevens phorometer that folds up and down for measuring vertical and horizontal phorias. The jackson cross cylinder was something you did manually using a hand-held. There are no maddox rods, something no sane optometrist ever uses anyway, so no loss. The cylinder range is plano to -2.00 with clips to hold trial lenses to achieve a higher power range. The sphere power range is -12.00 to +12.00, also with clips to hold trial lenses to achieve higher power range. The stand has wheels that all turn, all the knobs move freely, but it has surface rust….. It’s 100 years old. The item “Woolf ski-optometer refurbished with stand. Vintage Carl Zeiss Stereo Magnifying Zoom Microscope 6x to 40x with Boom Stand

Carl Zeiss Boom Stand. This is a wonderful magnifying microscope….. You can’t get much better than Carl Zeiss Optics. The german lens maker Carl Zeiss began making microscopes in 1847. From the logo that is stamped on both the microscope and the stand… This is a “post war” piece… Manufactured somewhere between 1945 and 1970 when they changed their logo. I would estimate from the construction that it was made in the mid 1950′s. The logo is the Carl Zeiss logo from the factory in Oberkochen, West Germany. Lenses are clean, clear and undamaged. Each eye piece is stamped Carl Zeiss 10x magnification. The microscope itself uses a “rotating drum” for internal magnification. Magnification dial has 6 magnification settings…. 4.0, 2.5, 1.6, 0.6, 1, 1.6. 1.6 is on the dial twice…. That’s not an error. Total magnification is determined by multiplying the eyepiece magnification by the internal magnification so… 6x to 40x magnification with its current set up. Ideal for Gemological, Dissecting, Jewelry, Close-Up Detail work, etc. There is no model number anywhere on this microscope that I could find… With boom stand weighs 38 lbs. Boom stand base is approx 7″ in diameter, center support is approx 16″ in height (from surface), cross bar is 14. Multiple adjustments on the boom so you can position the microscope just about any way you want. The pictures do a much better job at describing this items than I ever could…. Please check them out!
