Antique LOT Medical OPHTHALMOLOGY EQUIPMENT Optometry Tool Instrument EYE DOCTOR. Large lot of antique medical ophthalmology optometry eye doctor equipment / tools. All are antique and from my great uncle’s medical equipment from the early 1900s. Items are described below with brands, condition etc as possible. These pieces are to be considered collectible, not for medical use. Eye chart 23.5″ x 12″ with metal top and bottom edge and a metal loop for hanging. Published by Price & Keene, Opticians, 1211 Walnut St. Chart has some edge damage. Paper is thicker and not brittle. Chart has been stored rolled for the last 50+ years. Three wood hand held charts with inserts. Each frame has a slit in the top edge for sliding cardboard pieces in and out. 2 of the 3 cards is labeled as Wall & Ochs Opticians, 1716 Chestnut St. The 3rd appears to be handmade by the doctor. 2 of the frames measure to be 9.25″ x 5″ and the 3rd is 9″ x 6.125″. Wood is in very nice condition, the largest frame has cracks in the seams at the top opening (see detail photos) but remains intact. The one card in a smaller frame “Jaeger’s Test Types” is double sided with text on both sides. Bausch & Lomb Optical Company, May Ophthalmoscope in it’s original case with clasp. The instrument is labeled Patented and has a rotating dial with numbers and a window at the top where light would shine through. The box / case has a seal in green print on the lid stating Bausch & Lomb Optical Company. Rochester NY USA on a thin textured leather? The box has a fabric covered interior and the original inserts to hold the instrument in place. Tuberculin Syringe in original box with Certificate of Examination. Includes a clear glass tube with graduations and a cobalt blue glass plunger, needle tip, spring and the metal holder for the pieces. The original box has a lid that flips up and a label on the back “No 01/2 LT, 1/2 cc, Genuine Luer Tuberculin Syringe with 2 Yale Quality Needles” (box only contains 1 needle). There is also a price? Tag on the back with a code. Two hand held tinted lenses labeled “COSMETAN”. The frame and holder appear to be a clear plastic material, but there is a waxy feeling coating on the plastic. The lenses are cool to the touch and seem to be glass. A 4 lens on a stick with a tan celluloid or bakelite handle. The metal stem in the center is labeled “SOFT-LITE”. One of the two lenses labeled “2″ is cracked and appears to have been repaired with a clear glue. Handle unscrews to enable it to fit into the large hard case. There is a second ophthalmoscope which appears to be brass with a black bakelite handle. Instrument is labeled Patented, Jan. There is a small mirror or the back that the angle can be adjusted and a brass dial that spins to change the window at the top. Glass tube with threaded ends and plated brass screw caps on each end. Each end is perforated like a salt shaker. The tube is filled with long slender wood sticks and 2 long wood stick cotton swabs. There is no brand or other markings on it. The box my great uncle stored the tube in had “PALAT STICKS IN GLASS” written on the lid of an old John Wanamaker box. I have no idea what these were for. Large double latch case with compartments, holders for tools. The box is lined in leather and has a latching area in the lid for additional tools. The box bottom is divided in half. One large area and the second half has metal slots with a locking arm over top to hold them in place. These 13 tools are hooks, knives, loops, and tweezers. They remind me of dental tools. The large compartment held the tuberculin syringe (see item 4) and what appears to be pieces of an old ophthalmoscope type tool. There is also a small round leather case from Wall & Ochs with a Sir Wm Crookes Glass’B’ lens with a thin, Soft-Litr Lens Company metal frame and small handle (like a monocle). Lens is also labeled “Limeburner Co”. In the same leather case is also a thin plastic circular compass with degree markings. Round case is a thin leather and there is a rip near the front side seam. The top half has a sturdy leather flap that secures with 2 sliding levers. Printed on this flap is Joseph C. 8 & 10 So. The flap opens to reveal 3 compartments. The center has leather loops for holding tools in place. The other are slender and hold wider instruments. In the top is mostly scissors and unusual looking tweezer like tools. There are 10 tools in the top. The hard case has a textured black leather exterior with a silver colored plate on the top for a name? (this one is blank, but shows wear). There are 2 slide latches, similar to a brief case for opening the case. Latches operate smoothly and remain secure when closed. The black leather shows wear. Folio with Guild Opticians Rx logo and J. Printed on the front cover. Inside are 5 pairs of oaktag glasses with tiny perforation marks for viewing through. The glasses appear to be unused. The folio has several pages with charts to read, similar to the wood frame one in item 2 above. I’m guessing item 6 above was to be used when using the charts? . Folio includes 6 charts including text sizes, languages, playing cards, numbers and images. This is a huge lot of antique medical / optical equipment.
