Great lot from the Goodnight family of Caldwell, TX. Lot includes all items pictured. Items are in varying degrees of condition, most are just great display items and should not be used for any health care. Please review all photos carefully. Please view the images for approximate sizes. This is a lot from a huge collection of memorabilia spanning the late 1800s to 1960s, encompassing the famous Goodnight and Allen families who lived and ranched in Texas. They did not know anything more than is seen in the photos and documentation, and could not pinpoint where the items came from. I do not have any more information other than what you see and read. Bonjour de Bourgogne ;. Antique French medical instrument, Dr. Eguisier’s gynecological Irrigator, 19th century for Cabinet of curiosities. Obstetrical gynecological irrigator invented by Dr. First patented in 1842. The device consists of a cylindrical metal reservoir of around 500 ml, in which a piston moves. At the top of the reservoir is a winding key to operate it. A tap is attached to the base of the device, to which a tube with an extended cannula can be fitted. The cylinder is stamped: “Seul véritable Irrigateur du Docteur Eguisier, T2M, Marque de Fabrique” Medal 1849, Awarded 1867. This strange medical instrument linked to feminine hygiene of a bygone era will find its place in a curiosity cabinet, a collection of antique medical equipment, or simply in a vintage setting. This is an antique medical instrument called Carbolic Steam Sprayer that was used in operating rooms in the 1880s It was used to sterilize the air. The maker of the instrument is unknown. This device, used in operating theatres in the 1870s and 1880s, filled the air with a pungent, yellow mist of an antiseptic called carbolic acid. British surgeon Joseph Lister invented it, hoping it would kill airborne bacteria, reducing the chance of infection during surgery. Lister had begun experimenting with carbolic acid in 1865 – applying it directly to wounds, bandages and surgical equipment – after hearing it was used to treat sewage. Infection rates following his operations had dropped dramatically. The spray was less effective than applying carbolic acid directly, and it was unpleasant to use, causing skin and respiratory problems for the surgeons, who were reluctant to use it. However, the benefits of antiseptics were clear, and surgery became much safer. A great piece of Medical equipment history. Measures 9″ tall 4″ diameter and 11-1/2 wide.
